This Week In.. Writers block and the journey

Hello everyone!

This is my first update since the big move.. which sounds a little strange to me. How time flies when your life is surrounded by packing boxes, Ikea furniture and charity piles.

In truth, I've tried to write this post more times than I can count. Despite moving and changing jobs I'm yet to truly get back into a creative place. That's not to say I haven't been working, I've been drafting blog posts and thinking up pitches on the daily. I've been listening to Podcasts and reading books for the first time this year. But the flow between my heart and fingers hasn't quite reconnected yet.

So I thought I would do what I do best; write about writers block. Writing about the stuck and sticky is sort of my speciality at this point. There's truly nothing more frustrating than sitting down at my laptop and feeling the words get stuck at some point in the funnel. Like there's this strange bend in my brain the sentences just can't slip aroun…

Everything you need to know about face masks

Hey lovelies! Let's talk about face masks. When should you use them, what do they do and what should you use for your skin concern? With all the masks on the market, it can be so confusing to know what will actually work and what you should spend your hard earned money on. So here it is, everything you need to know about Face Masks.

When should I use one?
Face masks are designed to tackle skin concerns at a higher intensity than our normal skincare routine. If you're having a particular skin issue that your day to day routine won't solve, it's time to recruit the help of a face mask.

How do I use a face mask?
Different types of masks can be used in different ways. Some people like to use a sheet mask in the morning, let the serum sink in and apply their make up. Generally, I would advise using a mask at night after cleansing the skin. Leave on for the allotted amount of time, then wash away and continue your skincare routine. The exceptions of course being sheet masks …

This Week In.. Not Having It All Figured Out

Happy Sunday lovelies!

This week has been one of the hardest weeks I've had in a while. Not in the least because it just took me three attempts to type the word while. I've spent a lot of time thinking about where I am in my life, and where I want to be. You see, a lot of my friends have it all together. They're getting mortgages, or at the very least cats. They're talking about spare bedrooms that won't be offices if you catch my drift, and getting promotions in their chosen fields.

On paper, I suppose I have it all together too. I have a degree, and I know what I want to do in my career. I have plans for travel, further education and I have a partner I adore more than anything.

I've said it a hundred times, I've just chosen a different way of life. I crave beaches and jungles, rather than mortgage insurance. I long for adrenaline and the excitement of something new, over baby books. I'm more than okay with that. But sometimes, I have to remind myself…

This Week in.. Life, Mojo, Writing and Wine

Happy Monday! How is everyone? I'm coming to you from my sofa, wrapped in a blanket with an episode of The Bold Type on my new telly. If you've never seen The Bold Type, I seriously recommend it. Think Sex and the City meets Gossip Girl, but way more woke. I've managed to binge my way into season two in the last couple of weeks.. the morals don't all align with my own, but hey, I'm looking for entertainment, not a miracle.

So life has been pretty crazy recently. I've worked more than slept, and must admit that the two have overlapped more than I would like to admit. Raise a hand for the girls dreaming about beard oil displays, please? I've got a few very exciting things going on in the background, which I really hope to be able to update you guys on soon. It's been a whole year since I moved away from London, and into this flat which has become a house and a home for Elliott and myself. Who can believe it? Life moves so fast, and sometimes it's all…

Lush vs Instagram

Unless your down with the beauty world you might have missed Lush make the rather shocking announcement that they will be deleting their main Instagram account, in a social media switch up designed to improve customer experience. Why is this so shocking you may ask? Well, beauty announcements and trends are made and broken on social media, from an Instagram swatch to a YouTube video, the explosion of beauty consciousness (and our beauty wardrobes) can easily be accredited to social media. Lush, one of the trendiest most down with the pack companies out there, however have decided their social time is up, and are moving back to trying to focus on interaction with customers on a more personal level.

It makes sense; the confusion, the shock, the horror. After all, where will we go for news about new Lush products, what will Lush use to promote their social campaigns? Will a huge following, it seems r…

Easy Eco Friendly Beauty Swaps

Hiya Lovlies! It’s time to get serious about the environment, we only get one planet and it’s about time we stopped filling it with rubbish! One of the biggest culprits is the beauty industry, we throw away an unbelievable amount of packaging and products that end up in landfill..Wondering how you can begin your journey to a waste free beauty routine?.. keep on reading!

Swap Cotton Rounds for Reusable Cotton Pads

This was one of the easiest swaps to make. Reusable cotton pads do exactly the same thing as cotton rounds, except instead of binning them you pop them in the washing machine. The ones I purchased have a microfiber cloth on one side, which works much better for getting off my makeup than a normal cotton round.

The initial expense is higher, I will admit, but in the long term this will save you money and reduce your waste pile by a shocking amount. Since I’ve made the switch, I’ve noticed my beauty bin is barely used. It’s super easy to find these for sale on Etsy, which helps…

Deaf Havana, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Despair and Hope

Deaf Havana are a band that I have listened to for most of my life. Kadie and I bonded over their music when we first met all those countless nights ago. They were a small band at the time, having a much heavier sound than they do now, and their most famous songs were Nicotine and Alcohol Saved My Life and Friends Like These. The title of the former is pretty self explanatory, and the latter is about how much they enjoy their music, their friends and their lives. Their later music would lose this happiness, and would become something significantly darker. To this day, Friends Like These is the only happy(ish) song of theirs that springs to mind.

Their most recent album, Rituals, is a drastic diversion from their existing sound. All of their albums have an almost completely different sound, but the theme has always been the same; despair. Of the songs on the newest album;

Sinner is about an inability to an inability to change, and how the destructive behaviours of the song’s protagoni…
